Artist Bio
Monica Kapur- Trendy, Talented Textile & Fashion-Forward Pattern Designer
Pattern and textile designer Monica Kapur evokes the influence of her Indian culture in her intricate and inspired floral, damask and abstract creations, which add an elegant and exquisite touch to all products.
Born with an artistic eye in Noida – a suburb of Delhi, India, Monica has always gravitated to the beauty of art and earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Teaching and Commerce from Bombay University. Although education and business are applicable to all industries, she quickly became a self-taught designer, realizing that creating colorful patterns and trendy designs brought immediate joy into her life.
A dedicated, detailed and organized artist, Monica’s creative process consists of studying the latest print trends in fashion and interiors to determine a viable theme, visualizing the image in her own individual style, selecting colors and digitally drawing 7-8 motifs. She then makes a pattern and tweaks it until she is satisfied with the final result, oftentimes reworking the entire design collection until it’s perfect.
Monica derives inspiration for almost anything in the world, however, her favorite sources are her garden as evidenced in her robust pattern textiles of flowers and leaves Other collection categories include classic ornamental, marble texture, paint strokes, tropical and contemporary.
Always seeking to improve her innovative craft, Monica feels that her best is yet to be! That said, she is proud that one of her designs was selected by a wallpaper manufacturer in Ukraine and that several of her pattern and textile designs have been featured in Patternbank, a notable industry resource. She also believes that every sale is a validation of her hard work behind each design.
Monica is the mother of 4 beautiful human beings – her son and his wife and her daughter and her husband, all of whom she visits with regularly.
During her downtime, Monica enjoys indoor activities like cooking, baking cakes and sourdough breads, as well as outdoor walks in which she photographs new florals and elements for future designs.
