LACY TATUM- FLOWING FLORAL FANTASIES AND ETHEREAL ELEMENTS
Artist Lacy Tatum brings the essence of simple elegance to her flowing watercolor creations of stunning floral patterns, elegant hand-lettered designs and soothing subjects. Lacy keeps her art prints fresh and fun by creating comprehensive texture and design combinations from one small color palette, using watercolor, gouache, digital, and acrylic media.
Florals are always Lacy’s go-to source of inspiration, in addition to loose, abstract motifs. Her designs are simple, colorful and beautiful. Although her art is mainly based around real-life subjects, Lacy’s true talent lies in her ability to capture the dreamy magic of each item in a variety of imaginative colors. The allure of the unknown keeps Lacy motivated as there is always something more to be created, something yet to be painted, something waiting to unfold with paintbrush and color during that moment’s art session!
Art and creating has always been a part of Lacy’s life. Raised by highly artistic parents, Lacy’s mother enjoys a wide variety of crafts, while her father is an incredibly gifted oil painter often duplicating the works of artists such as Rembrandt and Norman Rockwell.
Lacy epitomizes the saying, “from your greatest pain comes your greatest passion,”
with her official entry into the art industry. In 2014, after her twin sons’ premature delivery and subsequent 27-day NICU stay, Lacy began lettering inspirational phrases as a way to unwind from the intensity and stress of the situation. Realizing that she possessed a gift, Lacy started a small Etsy shop that sold mini papercraft kits. Designing hand-lettered digital art prints for her shop eventually led to experimenting with watercolors and offering hand-painted clip art prints in floral themes. It wasn’t until she discovered that she could design repeat patterns with her floral watercolors, that an incredible world of surface pattern design manifested. This is now her primary focus and passion.
Lacy’s ethereal artwork has been featured on pillows, throws and table runners from Manual Woodworkers and Weavers and ceramic and glass coffee mugs by Evergreen Enterprises.
Although she is setting the professional world of surface pattern design on fire, Lacy considers her greatest accomplishment to be mothering her five children and experiencing every facet of life with them like hiking, sitting around the fire pit and watching movies together. When not creating in solo mode, Lacy enjoys sewing, writing, and reading.
